Overview
Athens public transport is managed by OASA and includes three metro lines, buses, trolleys, and trams. The same ticket works across all modes. Ticket types and prices
The 90-minute single ticket costs EUR 1.20 full fare and EUR 0.50 reduced. It is valid on metro, buses, trolleys, and trams, but not on airport express buses or the airport section of Metro Line 3. The 24-hour ticket costs EUR 4.10. The 5-day ticket costs EUR 8.20. The 3-day tourist ticket costs EUR 20 and includes unlimited travel plus a round-trip airport transfer by metro or express bus. The airport metro ticket costs EUR 9 one way and EUR 16 return. The airport express bus costs EUR 5.50. Reduced fares apply to children 7 to 12, students with a valid ISIC card, and EU citizens over 65 with ID. Children under 6 travel free.
Metro lines and hours
Athens has three metro lines. Line 1 (Green) runs from Piraeus to Kifisia. Line 2 (Red) runs from Anthoupoli to Elliniko. Line 3 (Blue) runs from Dimotiko Theatro to the airport. Metro operates from about 05:30 to 00:20 on weekdays. On Fridays and Saturdays, Lines 2 and 3 run until 02:00. On Saturdays, Lines 2 and 3 offer 24-hour service excluding airport routes. Peak-hour frequency is 3 to 5 minutes on Lines 2 and 3, and 5 to 6 minutes on Line 1. Off-peak frequency is 6 to 10 minutes. Line 3 from the airport to Syntagma takes about 40 minutes. Trains run every 30 to 36 minutes.

Metro Line 3 connects Athens International Airport with central Athens and Piraeus. The airport metro station is accessible via an elevated walkway from the terminal. The journey to Syntagma takes about 40 minutes. The fare is EUR 9 one way and EUR 16 return. Airport express bus X95 runs to Syntagma Square 24 hours a day. The fare is EUR 5.50. Buses depart from the arrivals level between exits 4 and 5. The X96 line runs to Piraeus port. Official taxis charge a flat fare of EUR 40 daytime (05:00 to 24:00) and EUR 55 nighttime (00:00 to 05:00). The taxi rank is at Exit 3 of the Arrivals Level. Uber operates in partnership with licensed taxi drivers.
